Deer Hunt Program

In response to deer complaints relating to flower and shrub destruction and traffic safety, the City of Red Wing established an archery deer hunting program several years ago. The program implemented deer hunting within areas previously closed to all hunting. In 1998, through the use of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Bonus Permits, the program was extended to allow hunters to harvest up to five deer each.

In 2010, the City Council approved a special archery deer hunt within city limits. Every year, city staff works with State of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials to evaluate the previous year's hunt statistics and recommends changes. Applicants are encouraged to be familiar with ALL rules and requirements for the special hunt.

Changes to the 2011 Hunt Program were approved by City Council at their April 11, 2011 Council Meeting. For information on these changes, please click here

The special deer hunt permit is valid in accordance with Minnesota DNR regulations. Back Tags may be purchased at the Public Works Department, 229 Tyler Road North, or for more information, please call us at 651-385-3674.
