Sister Cities Commission
The Sister Cities Commission promotes cultural exchange between cities of different nations to foster strengthened economics, world peace and a greater understanding of the world issues. The City of Red Wing has two official sister cities – Ikata, Japan and Quzhou, China. The commission also has an informal relationship with Drammen, Norway. The Sister Cities Commission can have up to 15 members appointed by the Mayor.
The Sister Cities Commission meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. with odd months meeting live in the City Council Chambers and even months workshop meetings in the Foot Room, Red Wing Public Library.

Where Ikata and Red Wing come together. The purpose of this site http://theflyingmikan.blogspot.com/ is to provide information to students and host families participating in our summer exchange program. Posts will be uploaded in English and Japanese. It also provides links to the Ikata Town website, the Ikata/Red Wing Facebook page, and the Ikata Wiki page.

Ikata Student Visit - August 2012
The Sister Cities Commission and Friends of Sister Cities will be hosting the 2012 Ikata Student Exchange Delegation from August 3-12. Students and chaperones will be staying with host families and engaging in activities to learn more about Red Wing and our local region. Events include the following:
- Student participation in the River City Days Parade
- Tree planting ceremony and dinner of welcome at the Colvill Park Courtyard
- Visits to the Science Museum of Minnesota and Hobgoblin Music
- Farewell dinner at the Featherstone Farm
